Thoughts on Words of Affirmation

Our words have incredible influence on our children. They can build up or break down their spirits. I don’t say this to shame us as parents and caregivers, but rather to empower us. What power we have available to us at the tip of our tongues — literally!

I like to use the imagery with my second grade twins that the words we use are like a piggy bank. We will ALL make withdrawls. We will use words and tones we don’t mean. We will lose our tempers. We will regret things that have been said. But the positive words we use with one another are like putting money in the bank. They add up over time to make the people in our lives feel valued and important.

This is a list of some of my favorite positive affirmations to use with my own kids and with my patients. You can print yours here. I hope they’re encouraging for you and for the little people in your life.

My kids are all about superheros these days so I had fun creating positive affirmation printables for them. You can grab these here.

I’ve also created posters to affirm the kiddos in our lives! They’re available in three sizes - 8.5x11, 11x14 and also 16x20. I hope they encourage you and your kids! You can find these posters here.

As important as it is to build up the kids in our lives, it is also so necessary to encourage our fellow caregivers — the mamas and teachers and therapists and nurses and friends in our lives that walk with us and make all the difference. The people that invest in our lives and the lives of our children are solid gold. These are some notecards I’ve created to encourage people in your life. You can print these two for free here. The full bundle is available here.

May we have the courage to choose kind words and the willingness to ask for forgiveness when we don’t. You are loved!
